A Dhaka tribunal on Tuesday recorded the testimonies of 10 out of 17 witnesses listed in the charge sheet in the case over the rape and throat-slitting murder of child victim Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur.
The testimony proceedings began at the Child Violence Suppression Tribunal, presided over by Judge Masrur Saleqin. The victim’s father and complainant, Abdul Hannan Molla, was the first to testify before the court.
Other witnesses included the victim’s mother Parveen Akter, elder sister Raisa Akter, aunt Mahmuda Akter, uncle Mizanur Rahman Liton, residents Monir Hossain and Sheikh Abu Sama, neighbour Zakirul Islam Raju, uncle-in-law Moniruzzaman Shahin, and Constable Roma Akter.
During the hearing, state-appointed defence counsel Musa Kalimullah cross-examined the witnesses. The court later adjourned proceedings until 1:30 pm, after which testimony recording was scheduled to continue.
According to tribunal bench assistant Pankaj Peter Gomes, all witnesses were present in court, and the remaining testimonies could also be recorded on the same day if time permitted.
Meanwhile, the main accused, Sohel Rana, was brought to court from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, while co-accused Swapna Akter, his wife, was produced from Kashimpur Jail. Both were kept in the holding cell of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court before being taken to the courtroom for the hearing.
