Police say initial investigation points to possible strangulation
A leader of the local Hijra community in Chattogram was found dead at home in the city’s Khulshi-Ambagan area today.
Md Moshin, 52, also known as Moushumi Hijra, had long served as a “Guru Ma” of a section of the local Hijra community, police said.
Md Abdur Rahim, officer-in-charge of Khulshi Police Station, said neighbouring members of the Hijra community knocked on Moushumi’s door in the morning but received no response.
“They entered the house and found Moushumi’s body lying on the bed,” he told The Daily Star.
Police found injury marks around the neck, while the tongue was partially protruding and blood was visible around the mouth, the OC said.
“Based on our initial investigation, we suspect that they may have been strangled,” he said.
Police collected evidence from the scene and sent the body to the morgue of Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Police have started an investigation and are collecting CCTV footage from the area, said the OC.
Members of the Hijra community gathered outside Moushumi’s home and demanded a fair investigation.
