Several arrestees confess during preliminary interrogation; three are minors
Police have so far arrested five of the 10 accused in a case filed over the alleged rape of a seven-year-old madrasa student by students and a teacher in Savar, Dhaka.
Several of the arrestees confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation, police said.
Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Rakibul Hasan Ishan confirmed the arrests at a press briefing at Savar Model Police Station around noon today.
He said police conducted raids in different parts of the country before arresting the five accused over the last three days in connection with the alleged sexual assault of the child.
Teams from Savar Model Police Station, Ashulia Police Station and the Detective Branch conducted raids in Barguna, Bhola, Sirajganj, Gazipur and Dhaka, arresting the five, he said.
“Some of the accused are underage and in conflict with the law. Several of them confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation,” the police officer said.
“We are giving the case the highest priority and are confident that we will be able to arrest the remaining accused very soon,” he added.
According to a police press release, three of the five arrestees are aged between 12 and 15. The other two are madrasa teachers Jaber Hossain, 21, and Md Kamrul Islam, 26.
Jaber and three minors have been accused of directly committing the alleged rape, the release said.
Earlier, the child’s father filed the case with Savar Model Police Station on August 26 following a court order, alleging that the child had been raped multiple times over a period of six months.
The case names six students and four teachers of the madrasa in Purba Shahbagh, Savar, as accused.
Five students and one teacher have been accused of directly committing the alleged rape, while the other four were accused of aiding the offence, helping the suspects flee and intimidating the victim.
