Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated a nationwide training programme aimed at equipping college teachers with skills to deliver job-oriented and technical education, supporting Bangladesh’s efforts to build a future-ready workforce.
The programme was formally launched at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka. Organized by the National University (NU), the initiative seeks to train 12,000 college teachers across the country under the slogan, “We will take job-oriented education, we will work around the world.”
The training programme is designed to strengthen practical and employment-focused education by preparing teachers to deliver courses aligned with modern job market demands. Key areas of training include freelancing, entrepreneurship development, digital marketing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized the importance of skill-based education in creating global employment opportunities for Bangladeshi youth and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in the digital economy.
National University officials said 900 master trainers have already been prepared to lead the initiative. These trainers will conduct phased training sessions for 12,000 teachers nationwide, ensuring effective implementation of the new curriculum.
The programme aims to modernize higher education by integrating technology-driven subjects and practical skills into teaching methods, helping students become more employable both at home and abroad.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Education Mahdi Amin and National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah attended the event and highlighted the significance of workforce-oriented education in Bangladesh’s development journey.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in preparing students for emerging careers in the digital age while supporting the government’s broader goals of skills development, innovation and employment generation.
