Jute Press Worker Shot Dead in Broad Daylight in Khulna

A jute press worker was shot dead in broad daylight in Daulatpur of Khulna city on Saturday morning. The victim was identified as Abdul Jalil Munshi, 35.

The incident took place around 8:00am at Kulibagan intersection, according to police and eyewitnesses.

Jalil was the son of Dil Munshi of the Kulibagan area. He worked as a laborer at Ispahani Jute Press, police said.

According to eyewitnesses, Jalil was standing at Kulibagan intersection in the morning when three men arrived on a motorcycle and fired two rounds at him. He was shot in the chest and back and collapsed on the road.

Local residents rescued him in critical condition and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Daulatpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Zahidul Islam said the three attackers fled the scene on a motorcycle after the shooting. A police patrol team chased them but failed to catch them.

Police said they have received information that Jalil had allegedly been asked for extortion money. Investigators are also looking into whether the killing was linked to drug-related transactions.

Police have been deployed at the scene, while an investigation is underway to determine the motive and identify those involved in the killing.
