Bangladesh FM Visits Russia for Talks with Lavrov

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman departed Dhaka on Saturday for a three-day official visit to Russia, where he is set to hold high-level talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on bilateral cooperation and key international issues.

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir is accompanying the foreign minister during the visit, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced earlier that Khalilur Rahman would visit Moscow from June 7 to June 9 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. The two foreign ministers are scheduled to meet on June 8 to discuss a range of bilateral, regional and global matters.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the talks will focus on strengthening Bangladesh-Russia relations and reviewing current international developments. The discussions are expected to cover areas of mutual interest, including trade, energy, education, investment and multilateral cooperation.

The visit provides an important opportunity for both countries to assess the progress of existing partnerships and explore new avenues for collaboration across various sectors.

Bangladesh and Russia share longstanding diplomatic ties and have cooperated closely on major development projects, energy initiatives and international affairs.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is expected to return to Dhaka on June 9 after concluding his official engagements in Moscow.
