The accident occurred around 8:30 pm at the northern end of Kalapara Bridge on the Patuakhali-Kuakata highway. The deceased was identified as Harun Gazi, 45, a resident of Najibpur village under Mohipur area.
According to police and local sources, an easy bike carrying nine passengers was travelling towards Kalapara from Pakhimara when it collided head-on with a Sakura Paribahan passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the crash left all passengers of the easy bike seriously injured. Local residents quickly rescued the victims and rushed them to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Due to the severity of their injuries, eight passengers were later referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced medical care. Harun Gazi, who suffered critical injuries, was transferred to a private hospital in Barishal, where he died while undergoing treatment around 11 pm.
Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident and said police have seized the bus involved in the accident. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the busy Patuakhali-Kuakata highway, a route frequently used by tourists and local commuters.
