Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian on Tuesday urged young people to overcome limitations through determination, hard work and perseverance, saying many of the world’s most successful individuals emerged from challenging circumstances.
Speaking at the inauguration of the district-level Prime Bank National School Cricket Tournament 2025-26 at the Chattogram District Stadium, he encouraged students to set ambitious goals and work relentlessly to achieve them.
Organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) with support from the Chattogram District Sports Association, the tournament is being contested by 11 school teams from across the district.
Addressing the participants, the DC said a lack of opportunities or resources should not discourage young people from pursuing their dreams.
”Those who have reached the highest levels in their fields did so through struggle, sacrifice and hard work. Success comes to those who remain committed to their goals despite adversity,” he said.
Highlighting the role of sports in national development, Zahidul Islam said Bangladesh could further enhance its global standing through sporting excellence, which requires discipline, regular practice and dedication.
He also stressed the importance of continuous self-improvement.
”Just as technology is constantly evolving, we must strive to become a better version of ourselves every day. Learning never ends,” he said.
Describing young people as the country’s greatest asset, he said every individual should have a clear ambition and the determination to turn it into reality.
The DC also underscored the role of sports in keeping young people away from drug abuse and excessive online gaming, adding that the government is working to expand sporting activities to help build a healthy, skilled and responsible generation.

Emphasising teamwork, he said sports help develop cooperation, leadership and a sense of collective responsibility, qualities that are equally important for nation-building.
Earlier, Zahidul Islam inaugurated the tournament by releasing balloons and later exchanged greetings with the participating players.
