Top terrorist and teen gang leader ‘Kutta Shrabon’, who carried forward the family moniker ‘Kutta’, has been arrested alongside three associates with weapons in Rupganj, Narayanganj. He had been creating a reign of terror in the area through drug trade, land grabbing, and brandishing illegal firearms.
Due to a history of dishonest activities within the family, local residents in Narayanganj’s Rupganj had previously attached the alias ‘Kutta’ to a man’s name. Carrying on his father’s legacy through violent and criminal activities, his son Shrabon emerged as a teen gang leader and earned the same title, ‘Kutta Shrabon’. Shrabon, a feared top criminal and armed teen gang leader of Rupganj, has finally been arrested along with three of his accomplices.
The arrests were made during a secret drive conducted at around 1:00 AM on Wednesday (23 September) in the Chanpara area of Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj. A special team from the Special Response Battalion (SRB)-11 carried out the operation.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Masud Parvez, Commanding Officer of SRB-11, confirmed the details during a press briefing held at the SRB Headquarters in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, on Wednesday afternoon (23 September).
According to initial investigations by the SRB and local sources, Shrabon had long been forming his own teen gang and criminal group, creating an anarchic situation in Rupganj and adjacent areas. The gang was directly involved in various crimes, including drug trafficking, robbery, illegal occupation, land grabbing, and extortion in Chanpara and Rupganj areas. Recently, the gang established an extreme reign of panic and terror among ordinary residents in the Rupsa and Chanpara areas of Rupganj.
An investigation into Shrabon’s family background and criminal history revealed that his entire family had been involved in various anti-social activities in the area for a long time. Locals had been aggrieved by the family’s misdeeds and conduct for years. By carrying out barbaric attacks and atrocities on local residents, Shrabon himself embraced the moniker ‘Kutta Shrabon’.
The SRB stated that while attempting to establish dominance in the Chanpara and Rupsa municipal areas, the members of the teen gang led by Shrabon vandalized homes of innocent citizens, set fire to shops, committed looting, and brandished weapons publicly in broad daylight. A total of 18 cases—including murder, attempted murder, arson, kidnapping, extortion, and assault—are pending against the terrorist Shrabon at the Rupganj Police Station.
During the press briefing, the SRB-11 Commanding Officer said, “Based on secret information, a special drive was conducted to arrest this notorious gang leader and his three associates. A foreign pistol, one magazine, one round of ammunition, and six large cleavers (ramda) were recovered from their possession. The arrested individuals have been handed over to Rupganj Police Station for further legal action.”
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Masud Parvez further added that such anti-terror operations will continue in the future to maintain peace and security in the area.
