Terming the attacks launched on Saudi Arabia from Yemen “unacceptable,” the G7 group of seven major industrialized nations called on the Houthi group for an immediate ceasefire. At the same time, foreign ministers of the bloc urged Iran to stop providing arms and other assistance to the Houthis in compliance with UN Security Council resolutions.
In a joint statement issued on Monday (21 September), representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States called for an end to all Houthi military actions and attacks on commercial vessels.
In the statement, G7 leaders urged all parties to return to the political process in good faith.
The conflict in Yemen has displaced over 130,000 more people. Additionally, thousands of people have been forced to flee by sea to Djibouti.
Under these circumstances, France and the UK assured Saudi Arabia of defensive military assistance to counter Houthi attacks.
Regional tensions have escalated further ahead of the UN General Assembly session. Meanwhile, the United States has imposed restrictions on visas for the Iranian delegation.
At the same time, internal debates regarding media access at the White House and overall geopolitical instability are also impacting market systems.
