Md. Saddam Hossain, accused as the key mastermind behind a mugging incident on Satish Babu Lane near Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram and an accused in 9 cases, has been arrested by the Chattogram Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police.
He was arrested from the Uttar Sikalbaha area of Karnafuli Police Station in Chattogram on Monday night. Assistant Commissioner of Police Aminur Rashid, spokesperson for the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, disclosed this information on Tuesday (22 September).
Police said that on 19 September, cash was snatched from an auto-rickshaw passenger at knifepoint on Satish Babu Lane near Kotwali Police Station. After a video of the incident went viral on social media, the accused turned off their mobile phones, went into hiding, and frequently changed their locations.
According to police claims, Saddam—seen wearing a white t-shirt in the viral video—was identified and arrested by a DB team from the Uttar Sikalbaha area on Monday night.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Aminur Rashid said that Saddam is an active member of a professional mugging gang. In 2025, he was arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman and snatching gold during a similar incident in the Teribazar area under Kotwali Police Station. After being released on bail, he reportedly got involved in mugging once again.
Police further stated that a total of 9 cases—including mugging, robbery, and charges under the Speedy Trial Act—are pending against Saddam in various police stations across Chattogram Metropolitan City.
