BFIU Seeks Bank Account Details of Content Creator Salman Muqtadir

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the financial intelligence agency of Bangladesh Bank, has requested all bank account details, Know Your Customer (KYC) forms, and transaction records of prominent social media content creator Salman Mohammad Muqtadir.

In a high-priority emergency email sent to all public, private, and foreign banks across the country at 10:38 AM on September 30, the BFIU instructed financial institutions to submit bank account information, account opening forms (AOF), KYC profiles, and detailed account statements maintained in the name of Salman Mohammad Muqtadir.

According to the directive, banks were instructed to provide soft copies of detailed KYC records and transaction statements in a prescribed Excel format. The requested data includes structured information on identified accounts, interest earnings, and Tax Deducted at Source (TDS).

The financial intelligence agency ordered banks to transmit the information within one hour through the goAML message board, strictly emphasizing compliance with relevant BFIU circulars to ensure complete confidentiality of the requested data.

The move comes in the wake of a recent incident where a group of miscreants broke into Salman Mohammad Muqtadir’s office and vandalized property, triggering widespread reactions and debate across social media platforms.

In his initial response to the attack, Salman alleged that individuals affiliated with the BNP had demanded extortion money. However, he later retracted his statement, clarifying that no extortion demands had been made.

Commenting on the incident, Jahed Ur Rahman, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, expressed hope that high-profile content creators and viral internet personalities like Salman Muqtadir would act with greater responsibility in the future.
