Govt Working to Send 1 Crore Skilled Workers Abroad: Nurul Haque Nur

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment is actively working to upskill Bangladesh’s population, transform demographic potential into human resources, and achieve the government’s target of sending 1 crore (10 million) skilled workers abroad, State Minister Md. Nurul Haque Nur has said.

The State Minister made these remarks on Wednesday afternoon (23 September) during an inspection of the Gopalganj Technical Training Center.

Nurul Haque Nur stated that job opportunities are being identified in various destination countries, and workers are being sent accordingly. At the same time, workers are being trained and prepared in line with the specific demands of those countries.

Addressing the issue of fraudulent practices by middlemen involving overseas job seekers, the State Minister noted that many individuals fall prey to brokers and face deception while attempting to go abroad. Efforts are underway to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and streamline the migration process for expatriate workers.

To curb the influence of middlemen, the operations of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) are being brought under a digital network, he informed.

Additionally, to hold manpower recruitment agencies accountable, provisions will be made to allow authorized sub-agencies in various regions.

Earlier, regarding the government’s overseas employment roadmap, the State Minister stated that a target has been set to create overseas employment for 1 crore Bangladeshis over the next five years. The plan aims to achieve this goal through market diversification, skill development, reducing migration costs, and digitizing migration services.

During the inspection of the Gopalganj Technical Training Center, Deputy Commissioner Md. Erif-uz-Zaman, Superintendent of Police Md. Habibullah, officials from various government departments, and local leaders of Gono Odhikar Parishad were present.

Later in the afternoon, the State Minister attended an orientation and cultural program at Gopalganj Science and Technology University as the chief guest. Leaders from the university administration and the Student Rights Council unit of Gopalganj Science and Technology University also spoke at the event.
