A murder case has been filed against unknown persons over the killing of Apratim, the son of a Comilla University teacher. Meanwhile, three individuals have been taken into police custody, and his family bid him a final farewell amidst the tearful grief of relatives.
A murder case was filed at Sadar South Model Police Station in Cumilla regarding the murder of Ishayat Shahriar Apratim (13), son of Nahida Begum, Associate Professor of the Bengali Department at Comilla University. The victim’s father, K M Firoz Shahriar, filed the case as the plaintiff around 12:30 AM last Saturday night. Police have already detained three persons on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Rakibul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar South Model Police Station, confirmed the matter on Sunday morning. He stated that the accused were not named specifically and were listed as unidentified individuals in the case.
Following the recovery of his body after going missing yesterday, Apratim’s body was brought to Noorjahan Villa in the Gandhamati area of Kotbari around 9:00 AM today, Sunday. As the hearse arrived, relatives and friends gathered, while his mother, Nahida Begum, wept inconsolably on the third floor of the apartment. Around 9:45 AM, the hearse left the house for the Comilla University central playground. Apratim’s first Namaz-e-Janazah was held at the university central playground at 10:00 AM. Afterwards, the body was taken back to the Gandhamati area, and a decision was made to bury him in the local graveyard following a second Janazah at the Gandhamati Eidgah ground.
Around 9:15 AM today, local leaders led by Kazi Deen Mohammad, Ameer of Cumilla City Jamait-e-Islami, visited Noorjahan Villa to inquire about the grieving family. At that time, Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, spoke with Apratim’s father, K M Firoz Shahriar, over the phone of the Cumilla City Jamaat Ameer. During the phone call, Shafiqur Rahman consoled the family of the deceased Apratim and expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved family.
According to the details of the incident, 13-year-old Apratim left home last Friday afternoon taking his mother’s iPhone to take photos with friends. He had been missing ever since. Nearly 22 hours after his disappearance, police recovered his battered body from the jungle of Lalmai Hill in Sananda village, adjacent to Comilla University. Law enforcement agencies conducted an operation and recovered the iPhone taken from Apratim’s home from a teenager.
