A gang of robbers held passengers hostage at weapon-point aboard a moving bus on the Dhaka–Narayanganj Link Road in Fatullah, Narayanganj, looting cash and mobile phones from at least 25 passengers.
The robbery took place around 3:00 AM on Friday (October 2) in the Bhuigarh Bus Stand area on the Dhaka–Narayanganj Link Road aboard a Narayanganj-bound ‘Sifat Paribahan’ bus originating from Jamalpur. According to passengers, the bus (Dhaka Metro-Ba-13-2444) departed Jamalpur for Narayanganj around 10:00 PM carrying approximately 30 to 35 passengers. After a few passengers disembarked in the Signboard area, the bus reached Bhuigarh around 3:00 AM. As the bus stopped to drop off passengers, a gang armed with sharp local weapons forcibly boarded the vehicle, threatened the driver by pressing a knife to his chest, and robbed cash and mobile phones from around 25 male and female passengers before fleeing the scene.
Following the robbery, the bus driver arrived in front of the Narayanganj Court area counter around 3:30 AM, where passengers informed ticket counter staff Biplob about the incident. The matter was subsequently reported to the police. Sub-Inspector (SI) Milon Fakir of Fatullah Model Police Station stated that police officers were patrolling nearby at the time of the incident, but because no one raised an alarm, they did not learn of the robbery immediately. Police were notified only after the perpetrators had escaped. Based on initial information, he added that only two robbers were inside the bus while one remained below, and the passengers failed to resist due to severe panic. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
