Jihad Departs Home After Dinner; Body Found Next Morning

Police have recovered the body of a 17-year-old youth named Jihad Hossain from beside a dragon fruit orchard in Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah, hours after he went missing after leaving home following dinner.

The body of the teenager was recovered on Saturday (October 3) morning near a dragon fruit orchard in Chunniait village under Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah district. The deceased, Jihad Hossain, was the son of Delowar Hossain from the same village.

According to police and family sources, Jihad left his home on Friday night after having dinner and did not return. Family members conducted a search throughout the night across various possible locations but failed to find any trace of him. Later on Saturday morning, locals spotted Jihad’s body lying near a dragon fruit orchard owned by Tuhin, son of Abdul Kuddus of Bhairaba village, in Chunniait village and informed the police.

Upon receiving the news, Maheshpur police arrived promptly at the scene and retrieved the body. Based on initial findings, police and local residents suspect that Jihad died of electrocution after accidentally coming into contact with an illegally set live wire trap around the dragon fruit orchard. Azad Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station, stated that a police team was dispatched to the scene and that necessary legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation into the matter.
