A sudden fire broke out in two abandoned train carriages in the Majhirghat-Banglabazar area of Chattogram city.
The fire erupted on Friday afternoon (October 2, 2026) at the SRB train yard in the Majhirghat Banglabazar area under Sadarghat Police Station. Senior Station Officer of Bandar Fire Station, Monem Billah, stated that they received news of the blaze at 5:47 PM. Subsequently, a fire service team rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire completely under control by 6:13 PM, after nearly half an hour of effort.
Fire service officials reported that since the carriages were abandoned, there was no furniture inside; however, one of the carriages sustained partial fire damage. The official noted that the exact cause of the fire will be determined following an investigation.
Meanwhile, Naresh Chandra Majumder, In-charge of the Railway Nirapatta Bahini (RNB) SRB outpost, mentioned that because the yard is open and exposed, it has long been used as a hangout spot for local delinquents. Preliminary suspicions suggest that an intoxicated individual or local vagrant may have set the fire either accidentally or intentionally. Concerned authorities stated that the entire matter is being investigated to take necessary legal and administrative actions.
