Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a foreign pistol, a magazine, five rounds of ammunition, Indian liquor, cannabis, and cigarettes during a special operation along the Matiranga border in Khagrachhari.
The drive was conducted in the Janmaratila Down area along the Matiranga border in Khagrachhari, located approximately 1.5 kilometers west of the Monoramer Tila Temporary Observation Post (TOB). Lieutenant Colonel Md. Shahariar Rajib, Commanding Officer of the 32 BGB Battalion, confirmed the details of the operation on Friday afternoon (October 2, 2026). According to BGB sources, acting on a secret tip-off, a special patrol team from the 32 BGB Battalion headquarters, led by Assistant Director Md. Zakirul Islam, took up positions in the area on Thursday night. Sensing the presence of the patrol, smugglers who crossed the border abandoned their goods and fled into the dense forest of the hills.
Subsequently, in the early hours of Friday (October 2), BGB personnel conducted a search operation in the Janmaratila Down area and recovered five abandoned sacks. Upon opening the bags, officers seized a foreign pistol, one magazine, 5 rounds of ammunition, 31 bottles of various brands of Indian liquor, 4.3 kg of cannabis, and 47 cartons of Indian Mono cigarettes. The total estimated market value of the seized illegal arms and narcotics is Tk 2,61,250, BGB reported.
No arrests could be made during the drive as the smugglers escaped into the inaccessible hilly terrain. The BGB stated in a press release that necessary legal procedures and the process of filing a case regarding the recovered arms, ammunition, and drugs are currently underway.
