Prime Minister’s Daughter Zaima Rahman Appointed to UN On Her Own Merit: Mahadi Amin

The Bangladesh government had no involvement in the appointment of Barrister Zaima Rahman as a Legal Officer in the Office of the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman, stated Mahadi Amin, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Education and Primary and Mass Education.

He made the clarification on Wednesday (September 30) while answering questions from reporters during a press briefing held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital’s Tejgaon.

Mahadi Amin stated that Zaima Rahman secured the appointment by satisfying all the necessary professional requirements for the responsible position at the United Nations. He asserted that she was recruited to the UN’s P-3 level post solely based on her qualifications and merit, emphasizing that the government played no role in the process.

He noted that P-3 level positions typically require five years of relevant experience, adding that Zaima Rahman’s professional credentials align well with the post.

According to information published by the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly, Zaima Rahman is currently serving there as a Legal Officer. A total of 40 individuals hold various posts in that office, six of whom, including Zaima, are Bangladeshi nationals.

Zaima Rahman earned her LLB degree in Law and Politics from Queen Mary University of London before qualifying as a Barrister-at-Law in England and Wales. She holds professional experience across various legal and policy domains in both Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

The press conference was convened to brief the media on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s participation in the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, his various engagements and bilateral meetings with world leaders, and details of his visit to New York.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly and Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon were also present at the briefing.
