A court has sent 25 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to jail in a case filed by a leader of the Juba Dal, the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The order was passed today after the accused appeared before the court seeking bail upon the expiry of their pre-arrest bail period. Following a hearing, the court rejected their bail pleas and directed the authorities to send them to prison.
According to court sources and case documents, the case was initially filed by a local Juba Dal official alleging political violence, assault, and obstruction of political activities.
defense counsel argued that the allegations were politically motivated and baseless, requesting bail for the party workers. Conversely, the prosecution opposed the bail petition, asserting that the accused were directly involved in the incident and that their detention was necessary for the smooth progression of judicial proceedings.
After hearing both sides, the judge denied the bail application and ordered the 25 Jamaat activists to be remanded in judicial custody. Security was subsequently beefed up on the court premises to prevent any untoward incidents.
