‘Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall’ Restored at DU, Removing Hadi’s Name

The nameplate designating ‘Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall,’ placed by students at the entrance of Dhaka University’s (DU) Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, is being removed to restore the dormitory’s original name.

Official efforts to remove the name ‘Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall’ from the main gate of the residential hall began around 2:00 PM on Wednesday (September 30).

Abdullah Al Noman, Secretary of Outdoor Sports for the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall Union, brought the development to public light by posting a photo of the name-removal process on social media.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Abdullah Al Noman wrote: “Many people used to get confused identifying the hall when coming in front of DU’s Mujib Hall. From today, that confusion will no longer exist. The previous banner name is being torn down.”

When contacted regarding the matter, Abdullah Al Noman confirmed that “the hall administration itself is removing the ‘Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall’ name.”

When reached via telephone for further clarification, Hall Provost Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman declined to discuss the matter over the phone, telling reporters: “Please come to the hall office to get the appropriate information.”

It may be recalled that following the fatal shooting of Osman Hadi in December 2025, a group of aggrieved students changed the name on the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall gate to ‘Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall.’
