Attack on New Guinea Properties: Maj Gen (retd) Mohiuddin Arrested

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested Major General (retd) Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury, accused No. 4 in a case filed over the attack, vandalism, and looting at the New Guinea Properties housing project in the ECB Chattar area of the capital.

An operational team from the DB Gulshan Division arrested him from a residence in the capital’s Segunbagicha around 2:45 PM on Wednesday (September 30).

Earlier on the night of September 26, a group of miscreants launched an attack in the New Guinea Properties area near ECB Chattar.

The attackers allegedly carried out extensive vandalism and looting across multiple structures, including content creator Salman Muqtadir’s under-construction studio and the main project office of New Guinea Properties.

Following the incident, Md. Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, Director of New Guinea Properties, filed a case with Cantonment Police Station naming 13 individuals—including Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury as accused No. 4—along with 150 to 200 unnamed suspects.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury had been locked in a long-standing dispute with the New Guinea Properties management over approximately 35 katha of land and access to a common thoroughfare in the area.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police have already arrested several individuals and are continuing drives to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the attack.
