Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that the executive magistrate in charge of the Mirpur eviction drive failed to communicate properly with the police, resulting in a lack of coordination during the operation. He also informed that an investigation has been ordered into the incident.
The Home Minister made these remarks on Wednesday (September 30) while briefing journalists at the Secretariat following a meeting on security and law and order at puja mandaps ahead of the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja.
Salahuddin Ahmed said that the government is working consistently to ensure public safety and establish peace in society, adding that it would be inappropriate to evaluate the country’s overall law and order situation based on one or two isolated incidents.
Regarding the list of extortionists, the Home Minister noted that compiling such lists is a routine activity of the police. He mentioned that in addition to extortionists, police maintain lists of terrorists, criminals, drug dealers, and armed operatives, which are updated regularly.
He emphasized that action against criminals is ongoing and will be further intensified. The government views criminals strictly as criminals without considering their political identity, asserting that action is being taken within 24 hours of receiving allegations.
Stating that incidents including the Mirpur clash are under investigation, the Home Minister explained that all details cannot be disclosed immediately in the interest of the probe. He assured that legal action would be taken against anyone involved, regardless of their identity.
He also mentioned that an investigation is underway to determine whether any Member of Parliament had ties to the Radda Clinic incident, reiterating that no one would be spared if involvement is proven.
Addressing the attack on content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio, Salahuddin Ahmed stated that upon receiving a complaint, police conduct a preliminary inquiry before recording it as a formal case. He informed that a director of the real estate company filed the case as a representative of the firm.
Regarding allegations of extortion, the Home Minister remarked that the public will judge statements that blindly blame the government or intentionally label the BNP as extortionists.
He added that no extortion took place there—a fact Salman Muqtadir himself acknowledged. The matter is being investigated impartially, and everyone involved, whether linked to New Guinea Properties or adjacent land plots, will be brought under investigation.
