A five-day break will be possible during this year’s Durga Puja if October 22 is taken as leave, as the festival holidays will be combined with the weekly weekend.
According to the government’s 2026 holiday calendar, October 20, Tuesday, has been declared a holiday by executive order on the occasion of Mahanavami, while October 21, Wednesday, is a general holiday for Bijaya Dashami.
October 22, Thursday, is a working day. However, those who take leave on that day can combine it with the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, respectively.
As a result, people can potentially enjoy a continuous five-day break from October 20 to October 24.
Meanwhile, the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust provides financial assistance for Durga Puja celebrations. Its official citizen charter also includes provisions for providing grants for Durga Puja.
However, the claim that the Trust sought Tk 4 crore from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Durga Puja and that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman ordered a Tk 5 crore grant could not be independently verified from reliable official sources. The information should therefore be confirmed through an official government or Trust source before publication.
