Two police personnel have been withdrawn from Chunarughat Police Station in Habiganj over allegations of attempting to frame three individuals—including a father and his daughter—with Yaba tablets. The accused officers are Sub-Inspector (SI) Masum Al Mamun and Constable Ruhul Amin.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) for the Chunarughat-Madhabpur Circle, Rafieur Rahman, confirmed the development on Friday (September 25). He stated that both officers were attached to the police lines on Thursday night to facilitate a fair investigation and administrative disciplinary proceedings.
According to local residents and eyewitnesses, a long-standing land dispute regarding a road exists between a family in Kalishiri village and the victim, Chhayed Miah’s family, with several cases currently pending between the two parties.
On Thursday morning, Chhayed Miah, his daughter Jasmin, and his brother Yunus were traveling towards Chunarughat in an easy-bike to attend a court hearing for one of those cases. Upon reaching the Bogadubi railway line crossing, a police team led by SI Masum Al Mamun intercepted their vehicle.
The victims alleged that during the search, the police team attempted to plant Yaba tablets into their pockets to frame them in a narcotics case. They were subsequently taken to Chunarughat Police Station in a police vehicle. The victims further alleged that members of the rival faction were present alongside the police during the incident.
As news of the detention spread, residents from Kalishiri village gathered in front of Chunarughat Police Station and staged a demonstration. Following the protest, the three detained individuals were released around 4:00 PM.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chunarughat Police Station, Mohammad Saiful Islam, stated that following the allegations, SI Masum Al Mamun and Constable Ruhul Amin were withdrawn and attached to the Habiganj Police Lines. He added that departmental action and a thorough investigation into the incident are currently underway.
